Christina backs Britney
Christina Aguilera has moved to dismiss claims that she believes Britney Spears career is over, and has insisted that she wishes her pop rival every success.

Aguilera and Spears have been presented as bitter enemies since their careers were launched in the late '90s, following their apprenticeship together on US children's TV.

Last month, Christina was quoted as saying that following her pregnancy, Britney had no chance of resurrecting her music career to its former glories.

However, in a statement on her official website, Aguilera said the quotes were "lies" and insisted the pop princesses have "the utmost respect for each other personally and professionally".

The statement reads: "It's really sad to see that some tabloid magazines still have to manufacture ill will between Britney and me.

"We are both grown-ups and have the utmost respect for each other personally and professionally. If certain journalists want to throw their integrity out the window by spreading false information, then so be it.

"But I'm not falling for their lies and neither should my fans or Britney's."

Aguilera also wished Britney every success in both here future personal and professional life, with husband Kevin Federline and their unborn child, who is due next month.

"May they be blessed with continued success and future happiness," she wrote.

Meanwhile, Britney has been forced to issue a statement defending herself against allegations that she verbally abused a girl on the set of a TV programme featuring her sister Jamie Lynn.

It's been claimed that Spears called her sister's co-star Alexa Nikolas an "evil little girl" during filming, as she sought to defend Jamie Lynn on the "Zoey 101" show last week.

However, a spokeswoman for Britney explained: "Jamie Lynn and another girl on set were having problems, as 13-year-olds do. Britney did have words with the girl, but felt she was sticking up for her sister.

"She did not yell by any means, she just gave the girl a sisterly talking to and wondered why they just couldn't all get along."
